We strive to ship all in-stock orders within 72 hours, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. If one or more items in your order is not in stock, we will notify you of such by email. Please be sure to check your email for order updates.
Our primary shipper is United Parcel Service (The Brown Truck). UPS will NOT deliver to a post office box. Please do not use a post office box for your shipping address.
UPS charges a fee for invalid addresses. If your order is delivered by UPS, you will incur a UPS INVALID ADDRESS SURCHARGE for any mistakes with your address.
Please be certain that your address and zip code are correct. Invalid street numbers, misspelled street names, zip codes that do not match street location are considered invalid and will delay your order.
Large items cost more to ship because they are bulky or heavy or both. If an oversize shipping surcharge is required, it will be displayed on the product page. The "Oversize Shipping Charge" is in addition to regular delivery and processing charges.
Transit and delivery requirements differ depending on who is delivering the item. Small items are delivered by UPS. Large items (Furniture, etc.) are delivered by a furniture moving company or by freight.
This is the UPS "Transit Days" map. It shows the number of business days (Monday through Friday, excluding holidays) required to delivery your order.
It does not include the time it takes to prepare your order for shipping.
Certain items such as furniture are transported on a large truck, e.g., semi-truck. Because of it's large size, delivery service may not be available to all addresses. In this case, arrangements can be made to meet you at an alternative location for delivery. Examples of addresses that may need an alternative delivery location include cul-de-sac's, narrow roads, unpaved roads, and remote areas including islands, mountainous areas, wilderness areas, etc.)
Two types of large item delivery exists; "White-Glove" and "Curb-Side".
Furniture ordered from The Period House is shipped "White Glove" only. "White Glove" delivery is a premium "blanket wrap" service that includes unpacking and carrying the furniture into your home and removing packing materials.
Additionally, items shipped via "White Glove" are insured for damage incurred during shipping.
"White Glove" requires that your home be easily accessible, e.g., no long or winding driveways, fewer than 10 steps, etc. Please contact us if you have special requirements.
The shipping amount calculated in the online store is an estimate only. A firm quote for shipping will be provided upon receipt of the order.
The transit time for this exceptional service is 2-4 weeks from the time an order is scheduled for pickup at our facility with the trucking company. This does not include the time required to prepare your order.
We do not use this type of service very often. The rare exception is when an item ships directly from one of our manufactures. An example of this is a large chandelier safely packed into a carton.
The driver of the truck will not carry the item(s) into your home or garage. You will be expected to un-crate, inspect, and carry the item(s) into your home with this type of delivery.
Curb-Side deliveries are not insured for damage.
Items delivered as "Curb-Side" are usually attached to a pallet. You will need tools to remove the package from the pallet. You will also need to recruit help from anyone you can find to help you carry the item(s) into your home. Again, no fun.
A much better delivery method for furniture delivery is our "White Glove" delivery service described above.
Sometimes it happens. And when it does, we want to be ready to correct the problem. First, you must save all packing materials including crates and boxes.
Deliveries performed by UPS and our White Glove Delivery Service are insured against damage. Curb-Side Deliveries are not insured against damage incurred during shipping and unloading.
If your delivery is a UPS delivery, unless you specifically ask us to require a signature upon delivery, your order will be delivered and placed near your door. Upon opening your order, inspect the items and if damage is found, contact us within 72 hours of receipt for further instructions.
If your delivery is furniture or large items that are delivered via our truck delivery or white glove delivery service, you will be required to sign for the delivery.
IMPORTANT: BEFORE you sign the delivery document(s), be sure that you have thoroughly inspected your shipment for damage. If damage is found, you must note it on the shipping document. A damage claim is valid only when appropriate notes have been made on the shipping document.
